itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Marrakech
Arrival to Marrakech airport and transfer to the Riad.

Day 2: Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Zagora – Draa Valley – Foum Taqat
The journey begins by driving across the plains of Marrakech then crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the pass of Tizi n'Tichka (2262m). Arriving in Ouarzazate, visit the famous film studios where movies such as Gladiator, Babel and Kingdom of Heaven were shot. Lunch in Ouarzazate then drive through the rocky desert to Draa Valley, arriving at Foum Taqat where we meet the camel men and pitch our tents for the night. (9 hours including stops, overnight in tents)

Day 3: Foum Taqat – Palm Groves – Bougawarn Dunes
Rise early, pack the tents and enjoy breakfast under the warm sun. Walking through scenes of everyday life – villagers at wells, crumbling Kasbahs, deep river beds and oases set amongst shifting dunes. The caravan passes through tamarisk trees, sand and date palms with lunch under the shade of palm trees, before arriving at Bougawarn Dunes for sunset. (6 hours walk, overnight in tents)

Day 4: Bougawarn – Zaouit Sidi Salh – Tidri Dunes
After breakfast, continue the adventure walking over dunes and through the last village in the oasis, stopping for water before a long stretch without a water source. Lunch under the shade of palm trees, then arrive at the magical Tidri Dunes – a spectacular area of rolling dunes stretching into the distance, perfect for photographing the classic desert caravan scene. (approx. 5 hours walk, camp overnight)

Day 5: Tidri – Erg
A particularly dry day crossing flat, open stony plateau interrupted by sand dunes. Lunch at Bounou and relax before an afternoon camel tour on the dunes of Sahl. Overnight in tents under a breathtaking starry sky. (5 hours trek)

Day 6: Tidri Dunes – Ouled Driss
Set off again in the fresh morning air through a vast landscape with only nomadic herdsmen for company. Arrive at a chain of low dunes scattered with palm trees for lunch, then walk the final stretch across the dunes to the picturesque village of Ouled Driss, with its small museum and well-maintained Ksar. Camp in a palmeraie just outside town. (approx. 5 hours walk)

Day 7: Ouled Driss – Marrakech
After an early breakfast, board the vehicle for the return drive to Marrakech, retracing the route through the beautiful Draa Valley. Stop in Aït Benhaddou for lunch to admire one of the best-preserved fortified kasbahs in the country. (approx. 8 hours drive)

Day 8: Fly Home
Transfer to the airport and fly home.
